This project was designed with the use of cross laminated timber (CLT) in mind. This ensured high speed construction, with a 15 week build period for the structural frame. This project was a key part of a drive to develop an industry-leading system of analysing sustainability on environmental and economic levels. We now assesses the life cycle impact of embodied carbon on designs on several current projects. Cobalt place is one of our landmark projects with 104 homes over 2 residential Blocks. Key achievements of this project include a bespoke support framework solution & a reduced build time of 15 weeks for the structural frame. The development was also shortlisted in the Community/Residential structures category of the 2016 IStructE Structural Engineering Awards.

With innovative in-house monitoring tools, Walsh clients have seen on average reductions of 10-20% total embodied carbon, with some of our flagship work achieving 60-70% reductions compared with baseline figures.
