Eagle Wharf

Client

Hollybrook

Location

Camberwell

Regenerating a former industrial site Eagle Wharf provides
much needed student beds for UAL’s Camberwell College
campus. The constrained site had limited access, so Walsh
worked with a specialist precast concrete supplier to develop a
structural solution which maximised off-site manufacture.

The floor slabs were just 175mm thick which reduced the
embodied carbon and also the weight of the building thereby
providing savings to the foundations. As well as providing a
sustainable solution, the concrete wall panels took up less
floor space than a traditional “stud wall” approach thereby
enabling the developer to provide more bedrooms.

The façade also used a factory built insulted precast
“sandwich” panel which avoided workmanship issues to
provide a well insulated and airtight face further improving the
buildings environmental credentials.
