COMPLETION DATE

2008

The redevelopment of the culturally significant Spitalfields Market included the design of several island bars and restaurants, along with the reorganisation of drainage and perimeter buildings and high-level link bridges. The aim was to work with our client to reinvigorate the market, and create a characterful village atmosphere with a premium architectural finish. Each island was constructed on rafts with timber and steel connected with a number of high-level bridges and long span stairs. We worked closely with the architects and English Heritage to agree the remedial works and also determine roof modifications – the market also remained in use during the operation.
