COMPLETION DATE

The task at hand on this project was to turn the former Hartley’s Jam factory into a vibrant fully functioning destination. Features included 200 flats; and 4000m2 of live/work units. Part refurbishment, part new build, this project was an interesting blend of the past and present and created a living and working destination within a once forgotten landmark. This extensive refurbishment and new build project breathed fresh life into a collection of iconic Edwardian buildings. Our aim was to maintain the existing building, but extend upwards. After detailed historical and structural investigation we were able to establish that although there was some wear and tear, the original structure, foundations and cast iron columns were in good condition and could accommodate up to three more storeys. To complete the job with a high-end finish we repaired and strengthened the masonry piers and the filler joist floors.
